KERSA Classic – traditional puppets with a long history
Anyone who already owns older KERSA puppets will usually recognise the Classic range immediately. The puppets have soft textile heads and are light enough to remain comfortable during longer performances. Their faces, clothing and individual roles give every character its own personality.
This traditional construction helped make the KERSA Classic range popular for many decades. Families often kept their puppets for years and gradually added new characters to their puppet theatre.
Why are so few KERSA Classic puppets still available?
KERSA has discontinued the production of its hand puppets, which means that the former range is no longer being manufactured.
The figures still available here are original puppets from our remaining KERSA stock. Once an individual character has sold out, we can no longer simply reorder it from the manufacturer. The number of original figures available will therefore continue to decrease.
This is particularly noticeable for customers who already own a KERSA collection and are trying to find one missing character. In some cases we can still help; in others the original figure has unfortunately disappeared from the market.
The soft fabric head gives KERSA Classic its distinctive character
One of the defining features of the KERSA Classic range is its soft textile head. It feels very different from the firm moulded heads used on many other hand puppets and gives the figures their characteristic traditional appearance.
The puppets are also lightweight, making them comfortable for both children and adults to use. For many long-standing KERSA customers, this combination of a soft head, expressive face and easy handling is precisely what makes the Classic range special.
Many familiar KERSA characters have already sold out
The former KERSA Classic range included a large cast of traditional puppet-theatre characters, including Punch and Judy-style figures, grandparents, kings and queens, princes and princesses, witches, robbers and many other people and animals.
Only a small part of this once extensive range is still available today. Fortunately, this does not mean that an existing puppet theatre has to remain incomplete.
When the KERSA character you need is no longer available
If the traditional construction of a puppet with a soft textile head is particularly important to you, the munabo Art range is well worth considering. These puppets also have sewn fabric heads and are made in a traditional handicraft workshop.
munabo is an independent brand and is not a successor to KERSA. These are therefore not new KERSA puppets or a continuation of the former KERSA range. However, their lightweight construction, textile heads and broad selection of traditional characters make them a useful alternative when an original KERSA figure can no longer be found.
The munabo Art range includes many of the familiar roles needed for traditional puppet theatre, from central characters to grandparents, royalty, witches, robbers and numerous additional figures.

Complete an original KERSA collection or simply keep the stories going
As long as the right original figure is still in stock, you can of course continue to add genuine KERSA Classic puppets to an existing collection. For characters that have already sold out, this is becoming increasingly difficult.
In that case, a fabric-head puppet from another manufacturer can fill a missing role without changing what really matters: being able to continue using the puppet theatre, invent new stories and bring the characters back to life.
